how to connect with friends on steam

guys i am playing factorio for over 1 year now and the oldskool connecting methods still work.
but how do i connect using steam. i want to play with friends that are not on the same LAN.
and i dont want to install hamachi or something else with the same principle.
so is factorio working on connections within the steam community?

Hi,

As far as I know, it does. You just have to tell the ip:port you want to connect to, and that's it.

oke so when a friend of my has the following ip xxx.ccc.sss.ddd i just use that and put :34197 right?

Exactly. I believe both people have to port forward 34197 or just the host.

oke but that is just the problem. i though i dont have to forward anymore because at my current netwrok i cant cannot to the router to forward. i was hoping it would use the internal linking of steam

current version does not assist you through steam, you will have to wait for (and hope) that the next release 0.13 will bring this feature - until then, if just one needs to port forward by default, all other peers can connect to this client so long as the option "--peer-to-peer (or checkbox is ticked when starting from the ui)" is not used to start the binary
