[bug] bob's inserters freeze up

Hello,

I've installed all of the bob's mods and have encountered a pretty game breaking bug with inserters
somehow the inserters get bugged out when putting items onto the belts and just stay inactive.
The ones in the red outline are holding copper plates, but aren't doing anything with them while theres clearly space for them
Image

however it doesn't bug out in this scenario:(all of the inserters work as normal when the space becomes avalable)
Image

it seems to be somehow connected to not being able to place an item when theres no space for it at that time (so an semi-empty belt with moving items might accidentally block it and make it bug out)
inserters which transfer stacks of items seem to bug out quicker.
the bug however doesn't seem consistant because under similiar conditions some inserters bug out and others don't
theres over 200 inserters in my map and only 7-10 bug out

i do not have any other mods connected to logistics/inserters/transfer belts
latest mod versions(downloaded few days ago from dropbox)
game version 16.6

Looking at this, I would say it is an issue with the base game...
The devs have been messing about with how belts work, and the only thing my inserters mod does is change the pickup and drop locations, I can't control inserters to any kind of degree to cause or fix this kind of issue.

My suggestion... First update to 0.16.14 or newer if they're released another bugfix, and see if the issue persists, if it does, post it on the official bug reporting forum with savegame.

There's really nothing else I can do about it.

not sure if you will read this ...

i found out the freeze up is because of middle offset
Image
and if the offset is to whatever other it works just fine

Okay, the offset issue might be the cause, but your second example there, you should be able to end up with an offset in the middle of the belt using base game inserters.

Changing the offset to be to one side of the belt should fix the issue, but still, you might be able to replicate the problem with a base game inserter.

yea was just saying the exact case where it bugs out, did post a post to bug submissions hope something good will come out of it.
great mods btw, a bit confusing for a new player, but makes the game way more exciting :)

Did this issue lead to anything further yet, like the devs confirming the bug?

I might have had the same issue (near inserter from right to left with middle position which bugged out). I found that extending the belt in negative direction from where the insertion happens will reset the inserter so it works again (belt extension -> insertion point; '->' means the flow direction of the belt; insertion on the belt is perpendicular just like it is in vanilla).

Maybe setting the inserter to a middle position should not be possible via the gui if it is buggy. Is there any use case for a middle position? I just used this instead of the extreme near / extreme far position because I thought that if this works, I shouldn't go to the extreme position.

The devs were supposed to have fixed this back in version 0.16.37 or something like that, around the same time they introduced all the train bugs and fixed them and released about 10 patches in a couple of week.

Still encountering this bug. Quite annoying. Thanks for the workaround!
