Wiki "designs" page

I just thought we should have a wiki page dedicated to designs for various things, complete with images and a proper table of contents, with sections for each tech level.
This way, new or intermediate players could get a better idea on how to properly design factories.

Do we already have any such thing, or should I make one? Or is it just a crappy idea, and not appropriate for a wiki?

Make some example pages, and most of the wiki users will look at it and then we will see what you mean. :)

P. S.: a voting in this little subforum is a little bit ... oversized, eh? ;)

Eh, i know the poll might have been a bit to much... But I saw that inviting checkbox, and couldn't resist the temptation :D

As soon as I have time I'll build a structure for the page.
Is there maybe a "work in progress" template that I can add at the top?

Hm, you can first use your user-pages, like https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... ucca/Test1

That is a subpage of your user-space. :)

Don't care, everything can be reverted. ;) If you have more questions, you can also use the Talk:-space, every page has one. In your case https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... toSambucca

'kay, I'm startin' to mess with it.
Here it is: https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... nsTestPage

First question (of many, many to come): How do I make the table of contents show up?

The TOC shows up after the third heading. You can force it by adding __TOC__ anywhere in the page.

Ok, I promised to read over that and think about this design pages idea. Yes, it is not a bad idea.

But, well, my experience says, that it will take a hard work to keep this up-to-date. I see this with the news-page (https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/index.php?title=News) or https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... t%27s_play page (but goes down in usage the last time), which is an success, but other pages like
https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... =Tutorials or https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... %26_Tricks which aren't. :(

And I think sooner or later there will be some kind of webpage where players can upload and review blueprints. Either by some of the gamers, or by the dev-team. You will see. In that case, all your afford gets more or less lost, cause the advantage of such a site is much higher. I hope you are aware of that?

But, if you like to create and maintain such an area, why not? :)

Hope this helps :)

In this case some suggestions:

A) the blueprint feature will change the whole way this can work. See the blueprint-string mod: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =14&t=6742

There are already some blueprints now, if you search the forum. Use the blueprint-string in your webpages!

B) Don't mix opinion with facts. I wrote already something into your discussion page.

C) A wiki works by linking, not categorizing. Please try to integrate links from/into the rest of the wiki. I think this can be linked quite well from the Tutorials page ( https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... =Tutorials ). But also some other pages.

D) Make a subpage for every example.

E) Zoom more into the pics and try to use animations, use standard formats, see https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... o#Pictures
