Using underground belts to split belt lanes?

The following trick is shown multiple times:

Is there still a use for this setup now that splitters have filters? If there is not, I think it should be removed. Using underground belts for this is no longer the most efficient solution both space and cost wise.

I guess it can still be used to split the belt lanes if multiple types of items are present on both of them. But who would want to split such a belt?

The fact you wouldn't use it does not mean no one would :)and as long as the underground belt trick is considered a feature by the devs, it still has its place on the wiki.

Correct.

Which is why every time that image is shown it is mentioned that you can also use splitters :)

I expected this response, which is why I made it a question:

I do use this trick:

I was talking about the (possibly) obsolete trick that involves both splitters and underground belts.
I'm starting to slowly understand how things work on the wiki... (I did read the rules)

continous troughput with inserters is a hassle.

That, and belt-only solutions don't require power (and won't stop if power is interrupted)

That. And it's ugly:)
