huh? can't find steel on my to-do list!

Hello!

Im enjoying v 0.5.0 version of Factorio.

It's strange because i've developed the Steel technology, but my character can't make any steel from the iron, maybe it's some kind of bug?

I'm playing the game in spanish btw.

You need to put iron plates in a furnace to smelt them into steel plates, the same way you smelt iron ore to make iron plates.

Steel needs to be made in a furnace.

I believe it takes 5 iron to make one steel?

I generally split a small line off of the iron input to my factory, and feed it into a few furnaces which just feed into a chest for when I need it.

Also convenient for when you're ready to add blue potion production.

Any idea how to prevent confusion like this?
We added the description of the technology of steel processing (that it is made in furnace), but it obviously isn't enough.

Mmhh, i've put the game in english again and i read the description of the technology. That's it, it says "allows the smelting". So, it's hard to think you can smell something with your own hands

In spanish the description it's different, it says "Te permite transformar el hierro en acero", which means "allows transforming the iron into steel", which can be interpreted like you can actually make it without any furnace.


Mhh, i have an idea! maybe drawing a furnace next to the piece of steel in the icon of the Steel processing technology would help : )

Why not infomration about which building or structure is needed for production of something to every item.
I know that currently you basicly only have Furnaces and Asembly macines but in future you would probably wanna add more various item, which would probably need more specific structures for its production.
So adding the system to provide such information would mean that you won't be bothered with this in the future. It may even encurage moders to make more varied production facilities.

Hmm... i got an idea!
Create something like an index for all items with a search function (like in "League of Legends").
The indexs shows the items you need to craft it/how to craft it and which technology you needed.
(dont lol'z about my paint skills )

Yes, I'm quite sure we need something like Factoriopedia ingame, especially with more process types then just smelting + crafting.

Ya, but for now better wiki would be also good. It is quite obsolete now, and it would be great if someone from this forum could help with it.
