Challenge Map

Map Settings

All resources Normal, Size Iron, Copper, Coal -- big, richness -- good
Oil -- normal
Enemy bases -- very high, very big, very poor
Starting Area -- Very Big

Now, there are some changes to how you approach this map, which is why I have the resources turned up to compensate for it.
No Laser Turrets, yep that's right, easy mode disabled.
No Solar Power, yep, no fire and forget power that is clean and pretty. You have to make sure you are always making fuel and keeping your boilers running.

These two small changes drastically change how the game goes. On my current play on this map I'm up to 8 Assember MK2 running full out making ammo for the guns and it's not enough (currently negative in my logistics system). I have turrets that are actually sitting empty at the walls. The amount of resources that you blow through trying to keep the guns running is insane. The other thing that changes here is with gun turrets it's very difficult to turret walk to enemy bases.

No, where I think the map may be a little too easy is the very big starting area.

So please try the map and setting and let me know your thoughts. I'm really looking for a more difficult mode for the game as the current model is pretty easy.

Iron / Copper / Coal --- Frequency low or very low, Size -- Big or Very Big, RIchness -- Normal
Oil, stone -- normal
Biters always maxed

The only way this becomes a challenge is if you don't have lasers and solar power. Thoughts?

Are you avoiding efficiency modules for the challenge too, or just because you didn't think to use them?

I generally don't use efficiency modules. Usually speed or productivity. No point in conserving energy ... that's for real life.

Mmm, with the bases I build the normal turrets wont be enough, you would have to continuously kill biters past your pollution, and for me thats like... too much work

I'm over 20 hours into my play through. I do not kill outside my pollution. I'm just using around 150 clips / minute at the walls. It really puts the pressure on the resources. Then when I move for a new mining outpost. I have to supply that with bullets, bots, spare turrets etc so they can live. I would love to see a kill counter on the trains on how many bugs they have crushed. If you line up your rail line outside your walls at the right distance the engine will plow through good sized numbers. The attacks aren't quite non stop yet, but it's not uncommon to get hit in 5 - 6 locations at one time.

I could get rocket defense now if I wanted, but I'm going for a base that can do a few RDPH setup on this map without solar or lasers. It really makes the game more fun and challenging to me.
