.18 Campaign? What is the best starting place for new players?

Hello all,

Brand new purchaser here. Played the game once for a few hours years ago and quit because was not really interested in the campaign/tutorials.

I am seeing the the raodmap that a new campaign is coming in .18.
.18 is out in experimental, but the release threads do nto mention a new campaign.
Do I take this to mean that it will come in a future .18.x release?
I see the 1.0 release date, but I do not see anything for these interim versions. What sort fo timeline should I expect for this new campain hitting experimental and stable?

Should I wait for this? Presumably they are working on it because they believe it will greatly improve the new user experience? Maybe their is already a mod that is just a really good new player campaign/tutorial? Please give me all the suggestions and advice for when/with what a new player should start.

This is quite a difficult question to answer right now, currently 0.18 still contains the 0.17 "Introduction" campaign but it is at least planned to abandon it for an updated version of the pre-previous "New hope" campaign.
If you are looking for a tutorial style campaign it would be best to play it on 0.17.79 as it is somewhat bugged in 0.18.

The new campaign has basically been scrapped because they didn't feel that it worked. A lot has to do that the campaign would be very different from the actual sandbox game:

I liked some aspects of old New Hope campaign though. Like seeing a large base even if it's ruined. That gave a nice sense of the scale and also demonstrated some building patterns

Thank you so much for digging up this old thread Serenity, I never would of realised this and probably just put off Factorio forever.

It sounds like their is nothing holding me back from giving the game a go now. :)
