Maybe the charging port count and charging in general is to limit the range of the bots.

You can have 350 construction bots and have it dismantle a 350 piece structure nigh instantly - although they all have to charge before returning into the roboport.

Transporting 350 items over long distances via logistic bots though would be very slow as they have to keep recharging along the way with only 4 ports per roboport.
That is certainly one effect you see.

This means when you start out roboports are the tool. See I can place something and instantly 350 bots will come and build it. But as you scale up and try to place 100k landfill the performance dies.

And when you do build 100k landfill you will see rings around the roboports where bots are waiting to recharge and you are limited to basically how many bots one roboport can recharge. So the question remains: In for example such a long distance transport line with roboports placed exactly one bot charge apart how many bots can you sustain?

1 Roboport provides 4x1MW charging pods, 1 bot drains 5kJ/m (ignore 3kW). That means 1 roboport provides 4MW/(5kJ/m)=800m/s robot flow. If you place roboports at maximum distance (50m), throughtput is 800/50=16 robots/s.

P.S. Round it to 15/s, x4 cargo size = 60 items/s, kind of tier 4 belt. Nice coincidence.

One more thing to consider: A roboport has an internal battery that charges at a certain rate. And the charging stations draw from that battery.

Does a roboport even draw enough power off the grid to run all 4 pads all the time? I think so but can't check right now.

Yes, Roboport recharges at 5MW.
Actually, making Roboport's income significantly lower then outcome could be one more balance instrument.

P.S. Roboport has capacity 100MJ and flow 5MW. Accumulator has capacity 5MJ and flow 300kW. :?

Watch the power graph after a blackout how it goes sky high with all the roboports recharging.
