Long story short, I cannot force myself to play the game for a 2 or 3 years now, despite I want to play, and I did not realized what is exactly wrong with me, my life, the game or something else
But recently I've got it.
Soundtrack is just terrible. This music is NOT pleasant by any means. It makes me uncomfortable, like I'm listening soundtrack from Dead Space or something, it forces me to shut the fuck down this shit.
I've realized that after trying to listen OST separately on youtube. Track after track, I could not find ANYTHING that I would like to listen. All of it is just awful.

Probably I'm not the only person with this problem. Please add an option to switch back to original music
Yes, there is mod that brings original soundtrack back into the game, but it does not turning this terrible new soundtrack off.

At the beginning I liked that anxious music. Biters, biters everywhere… Produce red bullets, build defense… That was balanced.
When I became comfortable with biters, game music started to annoy me. I turned it off. Now I listen to my favorite music.
Nevertheless, I don’t want some of another music in the game: I would definitely get bored after XXX playing hours

You can just put the music volume slider under sound settings all the way to the left and voila, no more music sound. Then use steam music player or whatever else you like to play music on your PC with to play what you want to listen to while playing. Most of my 1400ish hours spent on this game I've had the score to Man of Steel blaring while playing the game.

I, on the contrary of many, can't play a game without its OST. I have tried, and just no. The games lose so much when played without their music.

I too didn't like all of the soundtrack changes that came with 0.12.I loved haluzsqua, I'm not fond of the 4 minute-ish of ambiant wind sounds, and same thing with some of the less structured parts on the new soundtrack (the ambiance part of the soundtrack).

That being said, the OST is globally good. One may not like the style, but it's well crafted, rich, and nothing screams Factorio more than its music, and that's the whole point of the soundtrack for me.

Factorio's soundtrack sounds fine and functional to me. It has played for 1000+ hours without making me sick so , I don't see any issues with it.

I didn't even know there was music lol. I've downloaded multiple versions and had no other verfication-type errors... my slider is at 40%. Is it normally really quiet?

edit: oohhhhh okay, I turned it up 100%. "I recognize those sounds!". Guess it was too quiet relative to everything else for me to really notice outside of the main menu

I have to disagree with the OP: I absolutely love the soundtrack! I have to say I dislike the fact that there are moments where there is no music playing – which for some reason does happen in Factorio. I'd like to have the Factorio music playing all the time! But then again – I could just put on that music separately.

I listen to YT or WinAmp, so I've disabled music in pretty much every game I have.

Games with amazing soundtracks like Rayman I leave the music on for. Games like this... once I've heard it a few times I just turn it off. Why not just turn the music off if you don't like it?

There is something wrong with your manners.

The music is great. But i personally don't like the parts who the game is quiet. Between some tracks is a huge pause and absolutely silence. Is that intended? Is that a bug? Is the silence a part of the track? Whatever. Dislike! Another thing is that the music is always the same. The tracks are very similar to each other. Just my two cents from Mr. Green

Art cannot be discussed. If someone dislikes the game music - well - he dislikes it and should hear something else - or read below.

Or hear nothing - like me, not cause I dislike it, but cause I knew it quite well and hear most times podcast, when playing. Works perfectly together, and that's also a solution.

But from the crafting side of the music - Koub already mentioned it - I can say the music is one of the best pieces of music I ever have had in my hands. And I played around really a lot with it, remixed it, used samples from it and much more. (*)
It has these little things in it, which you hear only, when you hear it the fifth time and very concentrated. Which makes it so useful for a game.

What it also has are those very high frequences (scratching on cymbal and so on, which can be associated with danger, see OP), so I recommend to use a low-pass-filter for 13 kHz or below in such a case - most soundcards support something like that - because there are persons, which react on such frequencies... - which is not their fault.

(*) You cannot use the music for everything, it has a different licence than Factorio. You need to mention at least the author Daniel James Taylor.

Really a simple view of things. Isn't it strange that some people don't even notice the music or even knew that music even exists? What kind of art should this be if you don't notice it? The silence art?

And as I said, there is a really big break between several songs. Breaks in music are not uncommon, but they don't last for minutes. That may well be the case, but nevertheless, for example when playing the piano, it is a matter of interpretation that the artist does not have to stick to.

I still find it amazing how you can ignore useful information from users with such simple words. Because nothing else is done here. People with an open ear might ask the question whether there is something in what people say. They don't say the music is bad, they say : "you hardly notice it".

And by the way: If the craftsman titled his botch on the building with art, isn't that also worth criticizing, because it's just art and you obviously have no idea?

Read the reviews correctly and see if there is anything true. Because otherwise you are closed off from possibly quite good changes.

That was it from the one who has no idea about art, but knows that the music is so subtle that it is hardly noticed. If that was the intention to include music that you don't notice, yes, you did everything right.

Real art needs to be found. Not presented.

I knew someone would call this. . But is this normal? Think of a radio song with 3 Minutes silence

The listeners would then rather think that the radio reception is disturbed and change the channel. It's all about Interpretation.

It's a forum where people engage in discussions about the game Factorio. I guess almost nobody here is interested in reading your advertisements spam for software to download videos from Facebook etc. -- especially as there is an opensource alternative freely available for Linux, Windows and Mac.
