Factorio > all
Yes, Factorio certainly does set new standards, both in terms of software quality and gameplay.

Despite still being in early access, it is already far superior to most AAA titles that have been released.
factorio needs to transform its plataform into service oriented architecture and let people consume its official apis and develop their own, to do whatever they want, and obviously opening the possibility to integrate with mobiles, allowing people to control the same save-game by different plataforms (especially between pc desktop and mobile, being this last own more limited obviously).

By doing this, factorio will be the base software to be used by third parties who want to create a rpg server and offer its players differente gaming experience. this is done today as a common game (online playing the software directly in the pc, connected to a certain specific ip address)

Imagine you download a app from the store and receiving a push notification that a huge worm attack is imminent and different people withing your clan need to connect and fight them, with artillery turrets for instance).

That would be far more difficult and be far less fun than you seem to think it is.
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

I'll give you an idea: You are a professional and need to work. But you still play factorio, which is my case.

Someone creates a server with customized rules, and the game can last 1 week, 1 month, and have missions, survival goals, and so forth.

Using a mobile, you can access certain game apis which interact with the game directly, but are very limited to a certain functionalities, like any service oriented architecture. You have inputs, then in-game processing, and outputs which will be displayed by the cell phone app.

If not enough players interact in time to prevent destruction, when you come home that session will be ruined, results will be displayed, ranks will be calculated, and a new online game will be started.

This ofcouse without any interference with a single player game. But this is a very costly investment, and obviously, the possibilities are almost infinite. This architecture would even allow third parties to developed their own clients to interact with the core software with is owned by the creators and comercialize it in the store and would pay a certain fee per connection, or per registered player, or any other way.

This is obviously subject for the future. The game is on a very good way and need to stay profitable for the moment. Let's consider it a possibility in the years to come. For now, it's only a big dream :geek:

Cheers

[Koub] Split from the "Thank You" thread, as it's totally off topic, but the discussion is interesting nonetheless. I made a custom title, feel free to change it.
