You really shouldn't have waited with greenlight for so long.

Don't see it as a complete ripoff really. Navigating in 3D makes you (as a player) much less productive in such a game, don't think this "game" will harm the factoriosales in any way :-). I think the devs do well in waiting for a nearly complete game before going in the big market.

Factorio is already more complete than 9/10 of all greenlit games.
The point is, that one got to steam earlier and after Factorio hits greenlight there will be a lot of stupid people(read: 80% of steam community) yelling that Factorio is a clone of the other game. Even people who make decisions can think it so, and that is really bad thing as I see it.

Besides did you look closely on those screenshots and video? Even the buildings design is the same! And when I read a list of features, it just have that "I COPYPASTED EVERY ONE FROM FACTORIO" feel all over it.
I realize that my opinion is biased, but man...

Even if this games features would match those of factorio, I wouldn't even think about playing it, because I like the perspective and graphics of 2D games like Factorio. It's the same with Diablo 2. Making fancy graphics distract from the game itself. Also the whole "space thing" bugs me. Let them try to copy Factorio. Time will show if they can keep up with making new features, frequent bug fixes and things like this, because this is a real strength of our Factorio devs, in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if they get forgotten as fast as they got acknowledged

That's a nice idea for a game. How ever as it wont have multiplayer I'm very turned off about it.

Looks like fun! Maybe after I get tired of playing Factorio in 5 years, I'll give it a try.

I remember when Factorio was considered a ripoff of minecraft.

Well if you don't see an obvious ripoff here, then i don't know. Factorio is a lot different to minecraft than this game to factorio.

Yes, that is evolution :) We might learn from them as well. If the automation genre becomes more common, the better for us :)

Indeed, we don't know what this game will become in the future, just like how Factorio is miles away from minecraft now.

Some consider Minecraft is a copy of Infiniminer (or at least that it started this way)

Zach, the guy who made Infiniminer (and also Spacechem, which is wonderful, and Kohctpyktop, which I recommend to puzzle lovers who are not afraid of adversity) said about that:
The act of borrowing ideas is integral to the creative process. There are games that came before Infiniminer, and there are games that will come after MineCraft. That’s how it works.
That was in a superb interview on Rock, Paper, Shotgun almost 4 years ago that impressed me a lot.

Game development is a highly iterative field. The fact is that every game builds off of previous games, changing things, making some things better, making some things worse.

Duke Nukem 3D is no more a Doom ripoff than this game is a ripoff of Factorio.

A rival to make factorio an even better game!
Competition will keep the devs on high toes. Lets do it.

Now I just want to remind everyone, dont trash the ripoff game, dont go to them with immature words.

Well, I personally don't have anything against borrowing ideas and inspiration from other games. Every game(and every art product you can say) is inspired by something.
But "borrowing idea" is very different from "copypaste entire object without even bothering to change graphic designs".

Sorry if I'm being too aggressive, but it just that... I had seen several times in my life that situation, when some of my friends making something, working really hard on it, correcting and polishing his/her work before presenting it to public but somewhere in the middle of his work some other guy looks at it, decides that it is good enough for earning some fame/money, and makes a quick ripoff, publish it, and rips some money or fame on the first expression of the idea. And after my friend finish his work and publish it, everyone blame HIM for stealing it from that other guy! And there was a case when other guy was shameless enough to claim that he was an originator of that idea.
Sorry for my bad English, I just don't want anything of the sort to happen to Factorio's devs. It would be just wrong.

If any body thinks factorio is a rip off just link them to the steam concept page, the dates will prove otherwise. The steam concept page has been around for a LONG time.

Factorio isn't some obscure idea anymore. It'd be difficult to claim precedence over it.
Also, I'd say that it's "inspired" by more than just factorio. There's also space engineers heritage can be discerned. And guy also threatens to add colony-building elements in the game (you guess whose auditory is targeted by that).
Finally, it doesn't look like something that would live even till the end of it's kickstarter, and will probably disappear even before any association between conveyor belts and false promises is formed.
I do mods. Modding wiki is friend, it teaches how to mod. Api docs is friend too...
I also update mods, some of them even work.
Recently I did a mod tutorial.

Well they DID get the idea from minecraft's buildcraft mod.

http://ask.fm/FactorioGame/answer/112323672034
your game is so addictive :D and i love you for it! i even got two copies one for me and my bud. thanks to sips for introducing me. where did you get this amazing idea from? and are we going to see air planes in the game? We are happy about it, but sometimes we feel guilty, specially when people are telling stories of playing Factorio instead of study and preparation for important exams.

The first idea for a game about automation came from the Buildcraft mod for Minecraft. I found it very enjoyable, but I wanted to have much bigger factories than the Minecraft engine allowed. I also wanted to go deeper and specialise mainly on the factory building. I also wanted to connect it with some kind of thread as partial motivation of the building (biters) and enviroment where players can compete somehow.

Actually this game actively advertises Factorio.
And if you compare it (as it is now) with Factorio, this comparison will be obviously in favor of Factorio.
Nevertheless more competitors was never a bad thing :)
