Buffer Chests and Recycling

I've finally had some time to play 0.16 (with the benefit of a few bug fix patches before I hit the ground, thanks devs), and I'm rejigging my current factory to adapt to the changes. One of the tasks on my to-do list from before 0.16 dropped was to set up belt recycling. I personally don't like "all blue belt even if you don't need it", I prefer to use a mix of the right speed for the job. I therefore want to have all colours available in the logistics network. In the past I've gone with yellow output to a passive provider, with a requester feeding red, and so on up the chain, and let the bots feed through so they recycle lower level belts I trash. I'm feeling the new buffer chest should be a better solution, but I'd appreciate people's thoughts on how best to set it up. My first thought is have a buffer chest, request say three stacks, but use a wire on the output inserter to limit it to one stack, so leftovers in the network get pulled in to be used in preference to new manufacture. However, I also like the idea of using the buffer chest "as intended" to keep a stack each of commonly used items around my factory. My concern is, will this system work, or will all the outlying buffer chests just go unfilled due to the unmet request for the recycling buffer? Is there a solution I've not thought of?

They ran into an issue with buffer chests prior to release. Unlike advertised at first, they only work with personal logistics and construction bots. They don't provide their content to the logistics network :(

Good point, I guess we'll have to wait until the bugs with the buffers are sorted to figure out how to use them for this kind of task.
