Resources ratio's some help please

Post by Sicnarf »

I'm planning a factory and I'm trying to figure out how much/Percentage of each raw resource it takes to get 1 of each science. I'm going with a no on site smelting plan.
So assuming you have productivity modules in everything that can take them (Excluding mines) how much does it cost of each raw resource?

This site was very handy -> https://dwahler.github.io/factorio
However it kinda breaks down when it comes to oil as this site does not include productivity modules for crude oil processing and it uses Petroleum for making solid fuel instead of Light oil.

Below is the figures I got when I plugged in 10 science a second for everything (10 science was easier than 1) and .7142 rocket parts a second which combined with productivity modules in the rocket silo should be enough to get you one rocket in 100 seconds so 10 space science a second.
Could someone with a better head for maths than me figure out how much crude oil it would take assuming you use productivity modules in everything, advanced cracking and light oil to make the solid fuel?

10 science per second
Water × 2742.976/s(Offshore Pump × 2.286)
Stone × 42.518/s(Electric Mining Drill × 85.035)
Copper Ore × 421.879/s(Electric Mining Drill × 843.758)
Coal × 76.788/s(Electric Mining Drill × 153.576)
Iron Ore × 807.228/s(Electric Mining Drill × 1614.456)

Crude Oil × 2280.136/s(Pumpjack × 228.014)
Solid Fuel × 52.837/s
Lubricant × 38.266/s

there used to be a mod for this. https://mods.factorio.com/mods/kikker450/ratiotree

not sure if it accounts for modules.

Hi, Have you given a try to the calculators in this subforum : viewforum.php?f=134 ?
I'm pretty sure some of them can account for prod modules and oil setups.
This, for example :
https://kirkmcdonald.github.io/calc.htm ... +GTYaFzx4=
(already selected the 10 SP/s, you just have to put the modules you want :))

The Factorio Planner at http://www.doomeer.com/factorio is a really nice tool and up to date for 0.15.

The results for 10 Science per second are slightly different than yours (assuming full Productivity modules):
Iron Ore - 1009/s
Copper Ore - 499/s
Crude Oil - 2597/s

Calculating the speed bonus takes a little bit used to. But the planner really helps to design the production chains, what belt capacities are required etc.

this is the same calculator as mentioned in the OP, just a different host ( => https://dwahler.github.io/factorio ). it got issues with calculating oil, but everything else works like a charm, including modules and beacons, i use it A LOT.

personally i made a spreadsheet to calculate oil offline, it's not THAT complicated, but it's quite messy, so i wont share it. There is no calculator available that calculates oil correctly and in the way i want it that i am aware of.

This one https://kirkmcdonald.github.io/calc.html is far more accurate than -> http://www.doomeer.com/factorio or https://dwahler.github.io/factorio

While trying to resolved the inconsistency's between the results both of these were giving I found out that dwahler applies the 40% productivity bonus to items that cannot benefit from it, Speed module production, Electric Furnace production etc. This was the cause of Discrepancies. They are not bad sites just easier to use and a little less accurate.
Thanks for the Link Koub I'll do some more playing around with the calc you linked and post up the percentages of resources required once I get it straight in my head.

Thanks again Koub for the link, is the next best thing to having someone do it for me :)

Raw resources for 10 science a second including space science when using Productivity 3 modules everywhere.
crude-oil 1350.1
iron-ore 1001.9
copper-ore 498.0
coal 97.7
stone 59.5

Semi Raw resources
crude-oil 1350.1
iron-plate 1202.2 (455.7/s gets turned Steel/s)(339.4/s gets turned into Green Circuits)
copper-plate 597.6 (496.2/s gets turned into copper cable)
stone-brick 35.7
coal 97.7

So you need twice as much Iron as Copper.
Steel and Green circuits consume 1291.3/s = 2/3 of all Iron and copper which just feels insane.
Most of your oil is consumed making plastic followed by Solid fuel then sulfur.
You only need stone to make brick, it's raw form is not used in any science.
Side note the amount of furnaces in relation to assemblers makes me a firm believer in smelting at the mines to save space in your main base.(Late game)

Link to the calculator with all the values plugged in if anyone would like to double check my results ->
