A follow coder and friend at work talked about the glory of factorio.. I'm now working in an office were every Software Engineer here (6 of us) plays factorio...We love it..
We joke about how any new hires should be required to make a factory and then we evaluate it to get a sense of their engineering style...

We are also in the game industry as well, and I was also curious how many other professionals out there love factorio, so I figured Id make this poll..

The poll is missing a category for engineers who work for non-game company at the moment, but do have game-dev experience.

Man, that sounds great. I'm a software dev too, non-game non-tech company... Everyone here is always trying to get me to play Clash of Clans and crap like that. I *wish* I could convince some of them to play Factorio...

Although actually.... Probably not. I try to avoid getting too friendly with the folks at work.... I'm in a testing lab that runs 24/7 so getting too friendly with people just means getting dragged into work on your time off. If I don't talk to them outside of work then it's an easy decision to just never answer the damn phone when they call!

The poll is a bad example of coding.

You're trying to combine multiple things creating an explosion in options and you managed to miss most of the possible combinations.

1: Coder Yes/No
2: Employed Yes/No
3: Workplace Type Gaming/Non-Gaming.

That is the basic questions in the poll, but you fail to cover a reasonable combinations of those 3. The "None of the Above" category is just an awful catch all.

I also would avoid the employed part, you can code without being employed, if you want to know if people make money from coding, the employed part completely fails to cover the topic.

Your reaction is a bad example of factorization

You present 2 and 3 as if they are independent choices. However, if you're not employed you don't have a workplace. So, there are 3 options, not 2x2=4.

Edit: coder working at University (mostly non tech)

I do agree that the poll is missing at least one or maybe more options.
For example: I consider myself a coder (technically still a student) but I'm completely unemployed right now.

I'm not bashing the OP for creating a bad poll, I'm just pointing this oversight out due to my situation.

Should have added coder hobbyist to the options. I don't work as a coder, but am capable (Delphi and C++ mainly) and have done some modwork for other games in the past. I suppose Factorio speaks to a lot of people who enjoy logical puzzles - similar challenges are found in computer programming. It makes sense that there's overlap.

I do not work as a coder, but I do it as my primary hobby.
So I can't really use this poll.

Same here, but I chose "employed at non-game company" anyway...

Student coder. Voted for none of the above.

I made a few mods, and perhaps I should start making some more complicated ones.
