0.15 Mega Feedback Thread

I looked around and didn't see a feedback thread dedicated to 0.15 and its experimental build. So here it is!

So quick ideas for the thread.
1. Post your general feed back about the new update here.
2. If you have a bugs(Bug Report Forum) or technical issue(Tech Support Forum) please post it in those forums.
3. Try to keep conversations between users to a minimum. This thread is for us to tell the Devs what we think about their product.
4. Lastly, please keep it civil.

First feed back is about the map generation. I started a new game with the "Rich Resources" basic setting. Here is the map string I ended up with and the start I received. Is there anything we can do about these maps that leave absolutly no starting options?

Map generation is random, if you end up on an island, generate a new map.

My First Feedback based on 3 hours playtime up to researching concrete:

Had almost no technical issues apart from the Steam sync bug (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=44508) . On my fairly decent PC no crashes, game plays fine at 60 fps/ups.

However i noticed a very subliminal jitter when the screen scrolls (player movement). it was almost not noticable apart from quite straining on my eyes. fps was not an issue, stayed at 60. when i enabled "wait for VSync" it was gone, but the jitter i saw i do not really associate with artifacts from disabled VSync. Didnt had this problems in 0.14 but i actually do not know if i enabled vsync there as well.

Apart from that, rock solid up until now.

I love the new graphics. Game feels so fresh. The ore deposits look really nice. Had no issues finding my way around the new icons for the items.

Gameplay wise i learned the hard way that the new boilers do need quite more coal to leave them running.

One really, really minor issue, which happened to me two times: The new graphic for the chemical plant seems _very_ high vertically. i ran across an issue twice when i misplaced inserters at the top because i thought the top end was one tile above the actual top end of the entity. the sprite of the chemical plant also covers most of the inserter while the other entities do not:

Apart from that: i really like it! Tomorrow i will be able to test on my Macbook Air and see how thats going. (Hope the devs can fix the steam sync issue though...)

And what do you know but 0.15.1, sorting multiplayer servers by playtime, ascending or descending, also does not work.

It's unclear if sorting by name is working. Possibly people are inserting spaces in front of their server name to try to make themselves be closer to the top or bottom, so it might be sorting by name as expected. still seems random-ish.. might want to ignore leading spaces and put them in order anyway, if that's what is going on. :P

Anyone else had sound stopped working after playing the trains mini tutorial? (Other then that, it worked really well to explain the trains as simple concept)

I have to say the reactor is really good! I would even think that its better then placing solars for half of ya end game!

Me too, escaping to menu and resume fixed it.

After spending a night playing I have to say I am quite happy with the state of the game so far. I like the new boiler/steam engine ratios and setups. The biggest change for me is the one I thought would make little difference, the higher res graphics. Everything is just more crisp and clear and overall more appealing to look at.

Well done Devs! Time to go spend all day playing again :)

Pros:
1. Works without any problems. Apart from steam sync bug everything works fine for me. This is not that obvious for betas...
2. Death World and overall difficulty settings. There is finally a challenge without having to set resources to minimum. And the research on this mode is great - so expensive it actually makes you happy that any research finished (and that is something to be expected).
3. New steam engine and boilers. Much more space efficient, much easier to build.
4. The graphics now looks more like a high-budget game but is still clear.

Cons:
1. Where did the research icon go? I know most people use hotkey but it can be frustrating for a new player.
And I didn't even get to any of the new stuff yet...

Circuit wires clicks when placed. Speeds up play with wires and gives indication that wire "snapped". In my eyes very helpful feature of .15 :mrgreen:

Been away from Factorio a while waiting for 0.15 to come out. Tried generating a dozen maps but never saw any oil. Default Settings.
