Winning with Min Build Count [Challenge]

Post by Zemerson »

Hello,
I just finished a game building only 102 hand built items. Can you guys do it with fewer? :D

You have 2 items over the minimum.

You can build the rocket silo and satellite in an assembling machine 3. If you were worried that the ingredients wouldn't fit (1k steel for rocket silo) - they do. Assemblers will allow for larger stack sizes if the recipe requires it.

The real trick people often miss is using your stone furnace to make your first electricity boiler. That saves 1 build.

To do that, though, you need to stockpile enough stuff from that furnace to carry you through to after your science is there to make your own assemblers.

You basically need:

- 104 Iron plates
- 34 Copper plates
- 1 Wood
- 37 Coal

After that you can craft the furnace into a boiler.

Thanks,
Hadn't realized you could use more than 4 components in the recipes.
Guess once you make your first lvl 3 Assembler.
I figured out the first 99 items pretty early, then 100 is the first Refinery.

Is anyone speed running Min Build?

It's hard to speed-run the min-build, especially without crafting an axe to start with.

The "pain" of handcrafting is not so bad once you commit to it, and you can get quite fast/efficient at *not* building in-hand.... but, the really slow start, and the really tedious running backward-and-forward for even the simplest things (to the assemblers that produce them) makes it hard to combine lazy with speed.

My recommendation is that you go as fast as you can to complete the lazy bastard (because it's painful), but then do a separate process for the spoon.

You really don't need or even benefit much from hand crafting an axe since you start with a burner drill that can feed coal into the stone furnace fuel slot, so you can initially have it mine coal while you run around punching trees and stone (which are a lot softer than metal ores or coal), then rotate the drill+furnace to iron and copper while continuing to punch trees and stones. The iron axe is actually abysmal value because it breaks so quickly, IIRC you can only mine something like 35 metal ore before it breaks and you're back to punching anyway, if speed running you'd be better off saving up your discretionary points until you can automate intermediates then spend on electric mining drills, steam engines, labs and assembling machine 1s to reduce the time to assembly machine 2 and also perhaps save a point for a second oil refinery so you can double the rate of blue science production and thus potentially halve the time between getting oil refinery and assembling machine 3.
