So I'm currently on a map with a lake right above me. I estimated a 20 minute walk from where I am to the other side of it. I've pissed off the aliens, and they haven't ever tried going around the lake. They just keep going towards the water. Will they ever try to go around the lake? Took me 20 minutes of real life time to walk around it. Saved beforehand in my base with lots of armor, and died up there. There were thousands attacking me once I got close enough, plus a trail of 100+ more following me up there.

No, if they can't find your base within an hour, they will never find it.

However, they do affect game performance while clumped up there. So you may want to clear them out if your game starts lagging.
