Do Biters and worms spread?

Hi,

Just a quick question, do biters and worms spread as the game progresses? Do they always spread closer to your location, or just an any direction? Also do the Biters spawn bases increase in size?

Bitters do spread (they dont in peaceful mode)
They spread anywhere.
They can only make bigger if they spread next to the base I think.

Just as an addition:
Bitters will not build new bases right next to player buildings. I cannot remember the exact number, I think it was 3 chunks.
And their bases will not grow, because there have to be a defined distance between old and new bases as well.

If you want to dive deeper into it you can use the debug-mode ( F4 for settings & F5-F7 for different views) to show base-canditate-chunks, so chunks were bitters are able to build new bases
