Did I understand correctly that if you buy the game via the website, you get a free Steam key? Because a friend of mine probably wants to buy the game and would have done so via the website, since you also get a Steam key. Can you then give this key to another friend? Thank you and best regards

No. The key is part of your license, you cannot sell it or give it away without violating the license agreement, see https://www.factorio.com/terms-of-service.

Yeah, they're not giving you a second copy of the game for free for buying on their website (buy one get one), they're just giving you the ability to register your purchase with Steam so Steam will allow you to download the game and leave reviews via them if you wish.
