I understand that the game has an old mentality flavour. Big ones being the destruction of the planet/environment to make stuff, and the disregard for life.
Not sure if intentionally, but it shows on the military industry side of it. The amount of wasted resources to craft a variety of methods to kill... When a simple observation of the lifeforms would reveal they are unable to traverse water. All it was ever needed was an excavator to dig canals!

Get Noxy's Swimming and the biters can traverse water.
