cant update headless server to 1.1.36 (linux)

I am running a headless server on a small embedded pc with the newest ubuntu release.
Since released i wanted to update but im having trouble doing so.
With the --apply update command i always get a "bad zip file" error with the file i downloaded using wget from here: https://factorio.com/get-download/stabl ... ss/linux64
If i inspect the file it says its an xz file so i unpacked and repacked it as a zip file but now i get a missing "info.json" error.
After hours of fumbling around i cant shake the feeling that im missing something obvious because im a noob in these things.

Can someone give me a tip on what im doing wrong here?
