Installing downloaded mods ??

Post by steve7100 »

Sorry if this has been answered before but I could not find any info via search here.

in Mac OS Mojave how do you install previously downloaded mod files from the mod portal page here.
They are already downloaded so how do I install them into the game ?

I've used the in game installer but was wondering how to install mods BEFORE starting the game.

Thanks for any help.

copy them in mods in the app folder
https://wiki.factorio.com/Application_directory

They should be detected automatically on startup, if you didn't switch off the setting "other-> automatically enable new mods" (which is default on)

Still no luck with this. There is NO Factorio folder in Library: application support.
I've tried control click on the Factorio APP to show package contents and looked through every
folder within and cannot find any mod files listed anywhere and yet they have to be somewhere
because the game is accessing them when I run it.

Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6

I am not even sure what you are trying to do, if you want to enable already installed mods do so from the start menu > Mods > "Manage" tab. If you instead are trying to find the mod folder in use, post the log file.

The mods are already downloaded via the website not from the in game menu.
They are on my hard drive in my general downloads folder.

I'm trying to find the folder on my computer that Factorio stores the mod files in.
I've opened every folder within the Factorio app and cannot find any files regarding
the mod files. I have several mods installed (via the in game menu) already but I don't see them anywhere within any folders in the Factorio app. They have to be stored somewhere ???

I was hoping they would be in the application support folder in Library but there is no
folder for Factorio there.

Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6

Thanks again

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questio ... ata-folder did you look here?
I've searched the entire hard drive and there is no folder "mod" or "mods".
I can't find any reference to them anywhere and yet Factorio IS using them
so they have to be somewhere. Does Factorio use a hidden folder for some things
in Mac OS ?? Normally I don't have any issues finding files on my computer but
this has me stumped.

Did you ever actually use the path provided or are trying to navigate to the directory?

The path provided is wrong, there is no Factorio folder under application support as shown in the Factorio wiki under Mac OS.
Yes I'm trying to find the ACTUAL folder where Factorio accesses mod files

Screenshot with your "empty" folder will be more informative ;)

I don't have Mac but I am 90% sure folder is hidden by default (as it is in windows) so ~ is important :D

I don't know if you are being serious or not, but these folders are hidden both on Windows and Linux, and most likely on Mac as well. Directories with program data and settings are usually hidden so that users don't just delete them randomly and break their programs.

However, on Linux (and I guess on Macs as well), the '~' is a shortcut for $HOME, the path to the user's home directory. Files/directories where the name starts with a dot are hidden there. :-)
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!

I am being serious and don't call me shirley :D
I had no idea that program files were hidden like that.
Why do they leave OS files visible then, they are obviously more important
than files for apps ??

Why not just download the mods again?
Or download the zip of the game, extract it and start from there. Then all folders are inside.

If you use Mac OS, you have to live with the consequences :P
