[0.17.79] Game freezes System on Ubuntu 19.10
I'm having an issue where the game will freeze the system for 1-10 seconds. I don't think this is an UPS issue since it occurs on an empty map as well and it seems not to be correlated to CPU load or available RAM, as no core is over 40% when this happens and no more than 25% of RAM are being used.
Has anyone an idea how to fix this?
Unfortunately it makes the game unplayable for now :/

Re: Game (17.79) freezes System on Ubuntu 19.10
Press F4 and enable the option "show-time-usage" and take a screenshot during and after the freeze, and post that here. Please also post a log (located at ~/.factorio)

Unfortunately I can't take a screenshot during the freeze as it freezes the whole system, not just Factorio. I can only take a screenshot shortly after the freeze.
I've attached the screenshots and logfile.
Before freeze After freeze I've also noticed freezing when starting the game during the "Loading sprites" phase.

Do you have vsync on, and if so, does turning it off fix the issue?
That's the only thing I'm coming up with; to be entirely honest there are a few things there that make no sense to me (eg. average game update time is never going to be 0.000), so if that doesn't help I'll leave this for someone else. There is also a debug option along the lines of show-graphics-time-usage, and I don't know if that would show anything interesting.

Vsync on/off unfortunately doesn't make a difference.
What's confusing me is that it also freezes during starting the game, so I don't think this has anything to do with graphics really?

Re: [0.17.79] Game freezes System on Ubuntu 19.10
System freezes are likely system and not game issues, check cpu/gpu temperatures when the issues occur. Try changing the game options (9300) and see if that does anything. Try different graphic drivers.
Re: [0.17.79] Game freezes System on Ubuntu 19.10
Temperatures are all within the normal range, I will try playing around with the options a bit.
But the options won't really affect the system during game startup, or will they?

Re: [0.17.79] Game freezes System on Ubuntu 19.10
By freezing during startup do you mean the progress bar being stuck at some percentage (I don't remember the exact one) for ~30 seconds (give or take) or a full system freeze?
Edit: I second the suggestion to try updating your graphics drivers. (It only looks like you're about a month behind, but you never know.)

By freeze I'm always talking about a full system freeze.
Re: [0.17.79] Game freezes System on Ubuntu 19.10
I updated the driver, but the problem persists.
Re: [0.17.79] Game freezes System on Ubuntu 19.10
Try memtest86 ( https://www.memtest86.com/ ) or the memory tester that should be on the thing you used to install Ubuntu. Factorio will rapidly eat ram, and if it hit a bad spot, it could definitely freeze the system or get corrupted. Possibly the system also starts allocating memory, and even though Factorio's good, the system grabs the bad section and tries to use it.
I've had system freezing from overloading my power supply, that was an odd one.

I have mods! I guess!
