multiplayer lag and bad connection

So my friend and i started playing this game a week back.. but its starting to get unplayable for me.. (my friend is hosting the server over steam)
i have read and tried almost everything that has been written on this forum about "multiplayer lag" and etc.. but no help
is there any solution to this server lag yet?
