[17.59] unable to join private game with steam invite

i cant join my friends game that they're hosting. it is set to private with no password. it is downloading the map and saying "cannot load downloaded map: Trying to apply migration 2016-04-22_Factorio_0.13.0.lua (Base Mod) while joining a multiplayer game
i am on a mac while she is on PC, both on steam.

Your installation contains old files, delete the migrations folder (in base or data not sure) and then verify the game files via steam.
