[Linux] Problem launching 17.55 from steam client

[Linux] Problem launching 17.55 from steam client

Hey so I was playing factorio flawlessly about a month ago and decided to play the game again and it won't launch. When launching from the terminal this error crashes the game as soon as its launched

symbol lookup error: /home/guy/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Factorio/bin/x64/factorio: undefined symbol: SteamInternal_ContextInit

Searching for this error has not brought up anything I find useful
is there anything I can try to fix this problem? I don't have any mods and it's a fresh install

currently running
xfce ubuntu 18.04 LTS
kernel 4.18.0-25-generic
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
Sapphire Radeon Nitro+ RX 580 8GB
and I think this is my graphics card driver OpenGL ES 3.2 Mesa 19.2.0-devel

Hello,
try to delete ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Factorio/bin/x64/libsteam_api.so and then open Factorio properties in Steam Library and use "verify integrity of game files"

It looks like libsteam_api.so is actually in ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Factorio/lib/

I deleted it and verified game integrity and it re-downloaded the file but it still crashes when play is pressed from my steam library.

listing the dependencies for the factorio executable shows I have all of the dependencies
