I got the game yesterday and I played for 30mins then I saved the game; however, when I started the game up today it shows that there are no save files to load. I am also not too sure if I installed correctly as all i did was download the .zip32 version and used winzip to start the game.

Post the log, see my signature. When you save a game now, can you reload it?

If by this you mean that you ran the executable from within the zip file then you won't be able to load saved games.
This is because when you run an exe from a zip, winzip (I don't know about the behaviour of other zip applications) extracts all the contents of the zip file into your temporary directory and then runs the file. When you do this a second time you get a second copy of the zip in your temporary directory, one with an empty save directory.

In short, extract it somewhere first.
