No package core

When i try to start up the game i get an error message saying "there is no package core in C:/Users/Data. Deduced executable directory: C:\Users\grano\desktop, read data. _PATH_system-read-data__, write data: _PATH_system-write-data_

What version of the game (Steam, Gog, website) are you using ?
Can you add a logfile ?

I think you tried to make shortcut on your desktop, and copied Factorio.exe to your desktop instead.

Drag it to the desktop while pressing alt (iirc). The icon should show a little arrow in a corner to show it is a link.

Alternately, you can right click on it and click "send to" and then "desktop (create shortcut)".
