HELP! ERROR WHEN FRIENDS CONNECT TO FACTORIO SERVER

On attempting to join my server my friends receive the error "Could not establish network connection." I cannot find a fix for this anywhere under the sun. Port forwarding has been suggested but I shouldn't have to do this as I am connecting via steam. I can connect with any of my friends servers but not vice versa. Any soloutions would be appreciated
