My game keeps crashing at launch, sometimes immediatly, sometimes after loading a bit to around 30%.

I've tried different versions but they all crash for me.

This is the error message I get from windows:

I've searched for problems with that dll and did what they suggested like clearing the appdata folder and veryifing files.

I have no active mods and I have cleared the saves folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

*EDIT: Problem lies with steam, using the standalone exe works fine *

I believe this is a steam problem, try restarting steam and if this does not do it, restart your computer.

If the game still doesn't work, try to reinstall Steam client.

I tried rebooting yesterday, the game launched but when I closed it and tried again I got the same error.

I'm backing up my games from steam atm and I'll try reinstalling it.

Reinstalling Steam did not work, I still get the same error.

Any other suggestions?

As a work around, you can download and run the .zip version, or the .exe installer. (The .zip version creates a portable version, with the save and mod folders inside whatever folder you create when you extract it).

Well that also confirms it is a steam problem, because neither of those two versions interact with steam.
