Windows 10 (16299.248)
Lenovo Y50-70
Intel i7-4710hq
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860 M
I can session for hours with no issues, but if I leave the game to idle in the in-game [esc] menu to "refill my drink", when I get back my computer is off. Has happened several times, so it's become a problem.
From today, the system event log has 2 events:
The previous system shutdown at 6:39:30 PM on 3/11/2018 was unexpected.
The previous system shutdown at 7:51:00 PM on 3/11/2018 was unexpected.
LCID=1033 indicates a bluescreen but I just get an instant shutdown.
Let me know what other information you can use, i'm not sure an empty log is going to help you much.

Re: [0.16.28] Computer shuts down (bluescreens?) idling in menu
I own a computer that's very similar to yours. Same CPU and GPU. The graphics card seems to overheat if i play a game that allows an excessive amount of frames.
Afaik Factorios menu doesn't have a frame limit, i guess that could overheat the GPU.
Try going into Nvidia settings and force vsync. That may fix it if that's the problem.

Waste of bytes : P

Bluescreen means driver or hardware issue, I would start with testing temperatures under load, and running memtest86 and checking voltages. Generally this is not the forum for such an issue, looking in a windows forum would tell you where to find and how to analyse the memory dump that got created.

Yeah i took the back plate off and the situation improved.
The deva may want to take a look at why the menu is eating resources at a pace that can overheat a computer
