[15.37] Cannot connect to games hosted on the same network

Post by Bismuth »

I have been trying to play multiplayer with my brother for a week or two now and we have not been able to connect to a game that the other one is hosting. We are on the same network, but the game does not appear in the LAN games. It does appear on the public games. We get this message every time: "Notice - Couldn't establish network communication with server."

We tried with me hosting, with him hosting, using a password or no password, joining through the server list or joining directly through the Steam friends list, nothing changes. We made sure that Factorio was not being blocked by a firewall or an antivirus program. We can both join any game already hosted, we can even join the same game as long as none of us are hosting it, and interact with each other.

We used to be able to play together on the same network when we played on 0.14 a few months back, so this issue has not always been there for us. We've been wanting to play together again after a few months and now we're running into this issue.

Have you tried using the connect to server option, with the internal network ip address of the server?

I am having this same issue. This worked about a month ago, but now we can't connect on LAN or even have game seen on public. Anyone experienced this? Appreciate the help!

if you are trying to connect via WiFi, most routers prevent ad-hoc connections for security reasons.

I don't think that is the problem. Like I said, the problem we are currently having is new, and we could connect via Wi-Fi about 4 or 5 months ago.

make sure to white list Factorio in any anti-virus, or firewalls you have.
that includes windows security measures.

Would that prevent the game being seen when made public?

if it's stopping network traffic of Factorio, i would have to say yes.

Like I mentioned in the first post, that is already done.

The way we currently play is that we are playing with 3 players, one of which is on another network, so that third person is hosting the game every time. I can host and the third person can join, my brother can host and the third person can join, but the only way my brother and I can join the same game is if it's hosted by neither of us.
