LavasoftTcpService causing multiplayer issues and crashes.

Post by posila »

Since August 29th, some people started to experience crashes when trying to connect to a multiplayer game. With the help of the community members we have been able to isolate this issue to LavasoftTcpService64.dll injected into the game by Lavasoft Ad-Aware. If you google around, you can find lot of complaints about this DLL (or its 32bit equivalent LavasoftTcpService.dll) causing crashes in many multiplayer games, or software that requires online connectivity to work like Team Speak. Steam even shows a warning about this sometimes: https://i.gyazo.com/3408df538ba9a60c3fa ... 756ce2.png

As far as we currently know, running following command from administrator command line fixes the issue. Please note the command resets Winsock catalog to default value, which may cause some of your other applications stop working properly and you might need to reinstall those applications.

Code: Select all

netsh winsock reset
We also advise you to remove this faulty DLL from your system. If you intentionally want to use Ad-Aware, please inform their support their software is causing connectivity errors - specifically "An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket." - in other applications on your computer.
