Steam vs Direct purchase - is one better?

Hi,

I bought the game through steam, and when I sit at the load screen, Steam is running at 100% It also asks for inbound connections.

Had me wondering, is it better to play the direct download version vs the steam version?

first it's best to BUY direct so valve doesn't take 30%. too late for you i know.

i prefer to play the package version from factorio.com
steam has too much going on, mutiple browser instances etc.
