Headless Linux setup outdated

Hey there
I recently created a little test server but it was hell to set up and I still struggle with constant desync issues.
When I search for help all I see is guides to arguments like --latency that doesn't even show up in the server help anymore and I cant find it anywhere in the config files or server settings template.
Also the server is supposed to make a desync report which i cannot find anywhere in the system.
Then the --install-update argument wants a .zip file but the game comes in tar.gz format from the web server so that doesn't really work well either.
Does anyone know of a good guide that I somehow missed with hours of Googling on how to keep it updated and reduce desync issues.?
