Why is Steam not updating to the current version automatically? I have to select Opt into beta!? Updated version is now 0.12.30 and my Steam version is still 0.12.29

0.12.30 is experimental while 0.12.29 is the latest stable version. You have to opt-in to use 0.12.30 right now.

My Steam Game is running version 0.9.8.

It hasn't updated to anything higher.

I noticed I can set the 0.12.29 or even 0.12.30 in the "opt in for Beta" Part. Is this what we have to do?

Also, Will my 0.9.8 game work on 0.12.30?

I'll just run it. What's the worst that can happen.

Sure you are running the steam version and not the old shortcut of your previous install? Because steam never offered a 0.9.x version. The first version was (iirc) 0.12.20.

And running your version is ok, but you can not play multiplayer, you miss many new features and the new mods wont work.

Curious enough, I just realized that I was in fact running the old version (non Steam). I accidentally picked the wrong icon on my start menu. I didn't noticed because they both use the same save files.

To answer my own question on changing the versions, I only saw problems with a few trees and disabled replays. Although, I was just 25 minute in.

This is with every update the case.

Mine seems to be not updating now. I have no other version than Steam and it's 0.12.35, when it's supposed to be 0.13.4.
Any clue?

1: go to factorio's propeties
2: go to the beta menu
3: in the dropdown menu, select experimental

Clicking the drop down box does nothing for me. My only option is none

I chose version 13.4

Do not choose specific version unless you want to downgrade for some reason. Choose "experimental" so Steam will update the game for you when we release new builds.

I was stuck back on version 0.12.30 with steam. I was wondering why achievements weren't working. Turns out I need minimum 0.13.1.
Thanks This helped me get the version updated. Apparently every version after what I was on was experimental so of course steam didn't see any new version for me to update to. Just had to opt in. Extra big thanks <3

Something's definetely wrong with mine. I'm stuck in version 0.12.35 and I see the latest is 0.14 now. I really don't know what's going on

0.12.35 is still the current stable, 0.13.x is the experimental (latest) version and 0.14 is still some time away.
