I played the game a few months ago and everything ran fine, now I tried playing it on both the latest stable version and the latest experimental version and I encountered this problem.
On the stable version I also had black spots all over the terrain and white noise textures in some places, in addition to the missing item textures.

My PC specs are the same as before, so apparently the game has lost compatibility with my GPU?

I tried every solution I could find on the forums: set video memory to medium, graphics quality to low, reduced max texture size. I tried running the game on opengl, but it gives me an error on launch, so that doesnt work

I presume that running on OpenGL would solve this problem, but my game crashes on launch when I try to do that.

Months ago, when it worked, did you also play on Win 10?
For some reason, this is kind of wide spread problem with Factorio on AMD cards, but we weren't able to get hands on computer that would have this issue and it is very improbable we will be able do blind fix.
If you post also log where the game crashes when you switch to OpenGL rendering, maybe we could fix that.

EDIT: Also you could go to Radeon control center and try to set your integrated Intel HD as default graphics card for Factorio, to see if that would have the same problem.

I've experienced the exact same problem as b33fman. Factoiro has been running fine since I brought it but after I upgraded to Windows 10 I was getting the same graphical errors. I have tried the same solutions as b33famn but to no avail. I did run the game on OpenGL, it loaded fine but the graphical errors were still present.

@mrkurt88: Ability to switch rendering to OpenGL was added in recent experimental update, so if you try to update to experimental 0.12.10 and switch to OpenGL, it could work.

That has solved the problem. Thank you for your patch and help.
