[1.1.64] Crashes on large map

I cannot identify the source of crash - it can happen while I'm playing (spiders walking, inspecting chests, sitting idle, placing blueprints or belts - no pattern I can detect), it can also happen while the base is running overnight (clearing biters via artillery train, researching and launching rockets). I like to let the base run overnight when advancing infinite research, and I cannot do it now, because of the crashes. Also, crashing during gameplay has a long delay as steam resync's my save file.

I used a console command to research all science at the start of this save (back in May 2022), but did not have problems until much later, maybe once the base was larger.

Active mods
- Base mod 1.1.64
- Enable Research Queue 1.0.4
- Long and Far Reach 2.1.1
- Max Rate Calculator 3.4.48

Also, y'all are awesome. My favorite game, ever.

Save file is 155MB, did not seem to attach to original post, trying to attach it as a reply

Apparently that didn't work. Here's a dropbox link to the file https://www.dropbox.com/s/dvfbnm0ii5wna ... 3.zip?dl=0

Upload more logs of crashes please. Did you have any bluescreens on this system?

Yes, I did have a couple times (while the game was running) when the system blue-screened. Win10

I've attached the dump file from that crash. I don't have other crash logs, but will launch the game, and assuming it crashes again, add the new file(s) to this thread.

If you are getting bluescreens it means that the system is generally unstable, either because of a hardware, driver or os defect. Have you changed any hardware before you got bluescreens?

Hey, no, not made any recent hardware changes. And I've only had 2 blue screens in the last several months, both in the last couple of weeks, both while factorio was running. Most of the crashes did not cause / coincide with a blue screen, just factorio crashing.

I'm on build 1.1.65 now, it's running in the background, will upload the next crash file I get, if it wasn't inadvertently fixed already.

Had another crash, was a blue-screen. Current game runs at about 55 UPS/FPS

Applications cannot cause bluescreens, this is a system stability problem.

Echoing what Loewchen said. If you are getting bluescreens then that points to a system stability issue.

Factorio is very memory intensive and tends to find system stability issues that otherwise remain unnoticed.

So try turning off any overclocks, including XMP (which technically is memory overclocking), and see if that resolves the crashes/bluescreens.

Thanks, appreciate it! Here's the most recent one - app crashed, no bluescreen.

Save file is 155MB,
This is a very, very small map, not even funny.
Believe me, this game works with much larger maps.
Memory stability plays a very important role.
The last time, when I stopped having enough performance, and I overclocked the memory and processor at least a little, then the first thing I did was just test for several days for stability.
There are many programs and utilities, but one is enough for me - TM5, so far no one has better and meaner, especially with different configs. (but also tests well with the default config)
testmem_280622_DONE.jpg
testmem_280622_DONE.jpg (137.94 KiB) Viewed 1841 times
I was not too lazy and took a screenshot
for incomplete 12 hours of testing - not a single error.
Of course, with less memory, this can take 1-2 hours, but errors can fall even faster :)
I won’t say that the game works perfectly for me now, well, yes, sometimes it freezes, but in my position there’s nothing to be done about it :)
so it is necessary to test for stability!

Testing memory on top of an OS is a waste of time imo, I had systems that would not survive a single loop in memtest86 or memtest86+ but would not show a single error after hours of testing in windows.

believe me, I know what memtest86 or memtest86+ and testmem are. I also ran it from a floppy disk, now from a flash drive.
And I know a hundred tests for stability, LinX and others. This utility is evil enough to find errors that memtest86 doesn't. However, let's not argue and everyone will have their own opinion)) For an ordinary user, not an overclocker, TM5 is quite affordable.

ok, here's another crash log - I assume it confirms for y'all that I have a system instability as opposed to an odd bug. Thanks so much for everyone looking into it.
