1. What did you do?
I started the game on Steam with the launch button.

2. What happened?
the game crashes immediately, prompting an Error Message (see error.jpg). Also, no log is created!. The provided log file is from the last working version 1.1.55.

3. What did you expect to happen instead?

The game should start without issues.

4. Does it always happen?
It always happens.

There is no logfile created. The same issue occurs with 1.1.56 — however, no problem with 1.1.55, where the game starts as expected.

That is a steam issue, reinstalling steam seems to fix it for others.

I tried reinstalling steam, but the issue persists. I did not find a similar issue for this current version. I'll wait for the next steam version. Thanks.

I think this is interesting:

Code: Select all

   7.206 Factorio initialised
7.207 Game is running on selected version branch on Steam.
   7.207 Steam Storage Quota: 3998/4768
  10.203 Quitting: user-quit.
  10.597 Steam API shutdown.
  10.600 Goodbye
Factorio says, it gets closed by user. But, maybe it's closed by steam, don't know. But it's at least suspicious.

I would try to switch steam to beta version via Settings -> Account -> Beta Participation. I have some success with that in steam for linux for different problems.

You can also use the standalone zip version, which I would consider the royal way anyway, because you are not bothered by steam auto updates and stuff. The game is max. 2 GB in size, so you can also have multiple installations without storage problems.

It is closed by user, the log is from a session without the issue.

Oh, "Log for the last working Version". overlooked that. Thanks for clarifying

Hi,

The issue persists into the experimental version [1.1.60] as well. I tried reinstalling Steam and Factorio, but this didn't resolve the issue. It was okay, as version [1.1.55] still worked fine for me, but now I can select it in steam anymore! As the save games are not compatible with [1.1.53], iI cant continue my old saves anymore :(
I am aware that this is a steam issue.

Nonetheless, is it possible to find out what changed in the Factorio/Steam interaction in version [1.1.57]? I am hoping for any pointers to a workaround.

Cheers

If you’re sure you’ve done a complete clean reinstall of Steam, and maybe of the game too to be sure, then maybe try downloading the standalone (non-steam) version from the main site and see if that works for you.

I reinstalled and tried a compatibility mode (Proton 7.0-2), which gave me now a new error log
factorio-current.log
Logfile with actual error and stack trace for [1.1.59]
(1.45 KiB) Downloaded 84 times

This really did the trick. I did not know, that there is a standalone/steamless version. As I do not insist on using steam, this solves the issue for me (still some cheesy stuff with steam is going on)

Thanks for the help :)
