It's possible to get science - softlocked on Vulcanus.

Medium power poles are unlocked via researching Electric energy distribution 1 - a technology requiring red and green science. This technology is required to unlock Fulgora, and is not required to progress on Gleba, however, in Space Age, it's not required for the unlocking of rocket silo, and thus, you can get to Vulcanus without ever unlocking them.

And it's impossible to get wood on Vulcanus to craft wooden electric poles. The scenario of a newbie ending up like this is without the ability to research the power poles for whatever reason is very, very unlikely, perhaps enough so to dismiss this, however, this is a possible scenario.

if you manage to get yourself to vulcanus without power poles, you still can send some with your space platform

Umm... no? Power poles aren't needed on the space platform, if you didn't load them in, and don't have bots to load them from Nauvis, this will not be possible.
There was a very similar softlock on Fulgora that was fixed recently, except that the missing technology there was the substations.

In past versions (pre-release) you needed satellites, which needed accumulators, which needed power poles.
However since that change, indeed it seems you can get softlocked on Vulcanus.

Considering a softlock like this was fixed for Fulgora, I see this similar softlock fixed for Vulcanus as well.

Also need Solar Energy research. Otherwise it's not possible to bootstrap the first power.

Absolute most minimal power setup possible in Vulcanus:

With only the required tech for Vulcanus discovery one has access to both chem plants and pumpjacks. But not medium power poles or solar panel.

Things change a bit if you assume there's a working space platform in orbit.

I thought of that too! Thrust engines can go without fuel, they are just really slow in that case, right? Then it might be theoretically possible to get a space platform up to another planet, just setup a bunch of turrets (no power required) and put the ammo in them manually.

well now you are moving the goalpost. first you said only power poles would be an issue. now you adding missing robots.
i wont call this a softlock because even if you land on vulcanus without power poles you can still research them.

"...but what if i dont have enough science packs and no robots and no power poles?"

Um no, the only reason a platform is moving without fuel is because it's slowing down, or due to the 10km/s gravitational pull to the nearest planet, but in order for that to pull you to vulcanus you would have had to have travelled halfway there in the first place.

Regardless, you don't need solar panels as you can use nuclear power (which doesn't require solar), as long as launch enough fuel cells into space.

Also, it's possible to have your platform get destroyed by asteroids in orbit over vulcanus (in fact exactly that happened to me when I first got there, it wasn't a problem for me as I had a ton of bots on nauvis, so I just made another one).

So at a minimum, you should have electric energy distribution and solar panels researched, or you could get softlocked on vulcanus.

Thanks for the report however I don’t consider this worth changing. If you purposefully go out of your way to do this then sure you lose the game, time to restart or load an earlier save.

Lose conditions are fine. Maybe another developer disagrees and wants to spend time on these kinds of bug reports but I don’t consider them worth any developer time.

Vulcanus doesn't have free water, and you need water for heat exchangers for steam for turbines, so you need solar to bootstrap getting electric power out of that nuclear reactor.
(Similar issue on Aquilo.)

Sorry, I meant you can use nuclear to travel to vulcanus, but either way you are right aas you'll need power to bootstrap the ice colllection and melting and fuel cell insertion.

Ah, actually my bad I guess, I could have noticed the context...

Woops, I forgot about that.
Then yeah it's probably not worth the developer time to find all the ways you can get trapped and patch them.

drop in Gleba without unlock grey science pack maybe softlock too. because there is no raw coal, and coal recipe need grey science pack :o

There are no worms on gleba.
Also you won't get softlocked, it will just be really difficult to survive the enemies You can be careful and avoid them for example.
