[0.16.2][Mac] mouse fails to select entities intermittently

This is incredibly frustrating 
I'm plagued by this issue where some phantom areas of the screen are unselectable. the mouse does not work with in them. But then I wiggle my player character around and it works again where it wouldn't before. But then some other part is blocked.
When this bug occurs, the hover highlight does not show up, no info appears on the right, and left or right clicking does nothing even if you have an entity under your cursor.
