The track placement ghost tool rotates after placement of a section.
I created a little video to demonstrate. The green arrow of the tool can be rotated with R and shift+R, and then a section of track placed. If you notice, after placement the green arrow always points north. Shouldn't it stay facing the direction it was rotated to?
