Had a random thought as to possible end-game content. What if the whole goal of colonizing this planet was to mine a really rare ore or some such? After you build your space rocket it can begin scanning the world for small deposits of this ore, which then show up on your map some distance away form your base. You would then have to fight your way out to it, build a mining colony on the spot, and transport it back to your main base. Maybe this ore produces a ton of local pollution (radioactive maybe?), attracting all sorts of biters in he area. The deposits are rather small, require high-tech drills, don't stack in the inventory, and act as the points system as you return them to your base (where ever you build the spaceship launch). The ore is only sent into space once a certain amount is collected, so as it builds up at your main base it attracts lots of biters there too. This goes with the idea of your base being a supply colony for a larger intergalactic empire.

I like the rare ore concept. A bit like Dune spice.
