New at creating a scenario

I ran into some problems when I tried to use the factorio editor on version 16. I placed a bunch of oil resources and pump jacks. I also placed a nuclear plant and steam boilers nearby. The pump jacks pumped, but nothing came out of the oil resources. I'd also filled a chest with crude oil barrels but I couldn't unload them with the blue or yellow assembler into pipes that led to the large storage tanks. The assemblers wouldn't accept the full barrels of crude.

Nothing had been researched at this point but then nuclear power hadn't been researched either but I think that was burning. Why don't my pumpjacks produce crude? Why don't my assemblers empty barrels of crude into storage?
