[posila] Daylight suddenly darkens

Version 0.18.2

Loading my existing save, all looks good. Then after 20 seconds heavy cloud cover descends. It is not night because the lamps do not light up. WHen I go into a night cycle things look normal, but when dawn comes its not the usual daylight transition its Full day, and then when dusk starts it goes suddenly instant gloom.

Thanks for the report. I wasn't able to reproduce it though (with nor without mods)

Can you also post factorio-current.log, please?

Does it stay that way if you restart the game and reload the save?

Attached.

It does persist after a restart. I haven't tried a reboot of my PC yet, nor have I tried a different save.

The first save was started in 0.17 - I have now experienced the issue in a vanilla save I started in 0.18.

Can you Verify integrity of game files in Factorio properties in Steam Library?

I went with the extreme option of uninstalling and reinstalling the game - this looks to have sorted the issue. Thanks for the help.

I guess shaders in your installation got corrupted somehow.

Out of curiosity, why would Steam "verify integrity" not detect this issue then?

Maybe the drive cached the shaders and it got corrupted instead?

I suspect it was user error. I had experimented with maintaining two seperate steam installs with 0.17 and 0.18. I think that might have been the root cause but maybe didn't show up until the new release went live. When I noticed the two versioned folders I uninstalled factorio deleted all save folders and reinstalled the whole program.

Why do you assume Steam verify integrity would not detect the issue? (I don't know whether it would or would not, because I don't know what the issue was ... reinstalling fixed it, so until it happens to someone else, there is no way to get more information about it.)

I know there is some shader caching going on in Steam, I don't know if that would get deleted when uinstalling the game. I also don't know whether reinstalling would have effect on caches maintaned by graphics driver.

True. Sorry, I tough the original author did try verify integrity first and it failed to detect corrupted file. But reading again, it looks he didn't even try that. Never mind.

Again, we don't know if MrBadDragon tried it or not :)

So, MrBadDragon, since you still hang around in the thread ... did you try to verify integrity of game files or did you go straight into reinstalling the game?
