[0.12.6] Graphics freezes 30 secs into gameplay.

when i start the game up it freezes after roughly 30 seconds. i hear the sound in the background but the graphics are frozen. if i move around i can hear the sounds of different machinery nearby. I have to force quit the game as no menus work.
I did see a previous post that seemed to be about similar problems but there didn't appear to be any resolution. I have tried both 32 and 64 bit versions and the end result is the same.

Nothing about your setup is out of the ordinary and I haven't been able to reproduce the issue on my computer. Have you tried a different user account on your computer? The only things I can think of left to test are the extremes: re-installing the OS or trying different pieces of hardware.

There's nothing in the logs indicating anything has gone wrong and so far you're the first person I've seen report this particular issue. It may be graphic card issues - have you tried running a graphic card stress test?

I ran heaven benchmark for a couple of hours yesterday with zero problems. been playing MGSV and Mad Max today and again have had zero issues with either. I'll try it again and make sure that V-sync is off and see if that makes any difference.

Actually, he asked you to turn the v-sync on (you have it currently off).

What exactly is happening? I mean, what do you mean by crashing? Do you have some message? Does the screen just go black? From the log, it seems like the game was closed properly.
Did you try to turn off the full screen mode, and just try to play it maximised?
You could also try to disconnect one of the monitors (I also have 2 monitors and it works fine for me, but I'm just trying do blind shot the problem)
The computer seems to be powerful enough by a big margin (6Gb video ram, 16GB ram), and nvidia cards are the most tested.

Ok i tried it again today and the same problem. what actually happens is I run the game (tried plain running it, running as administrator and all the compatibility modes) it gets to the main menu and after three or four seconds it freezes. i can hear the buttons clicking if i click them and if i hit esc a couple of times and then click exit it exits, but graphically it is frozen.
An interesting thing though; i was setting up my Xsplit broadcast on twitch and the guys watching the stream saw it playing fine. In my stream preview i could see the game working but on my PC screen at home i was stuck on the main menu.

I'm glad that Nvidia cards are highly tested. i have the 980ti hybrid and it blitzes every other game i have on ultra and barely gets over 37 degrees at 60FPS.

Thanks for the info. This is very interesting. I take it the game visually freezes even when Xsplit is not running, is that correct? Either way we can try to test the game with Xsplit on Win10.

You could try to switch the game to OpenGL and see if that helps. Find Factorio's config.ini and in graphics section change force-opengl from false to true (this option is available since 0.12.7).

In that case, I'm moving it to 1/0 magic.
When it doesn't work again in the future, try the opengl option and let us know.
