[Request] Future of Modded Transportation in Factorio

Request: Ways to mod in future transportation projects.
  1. Attach "rolling stock" option to different categories (Outdated mod)/url])
  2. Different rail categories ([url=viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9478]Probably not)
  3. Allow something that my limited knowledge of modding cannot come up with currently
With the removal of bounding boxes moddablility and into hardcoding some of the new modded transports were affected. (Most notably Cargo Ships) and with the long time removal of rail categories automated transportation is getting harder to mod. AAI has good automated vehicles, but only single vehicles and not really a "network". I have started playing Factorio after a long hiatus and am started to get the itch to mod and want to see if I should try my trucking mod I abandoned way back because I could not attach rolling stock to cars and am horrible at graphics.

I had originally thought to put this under Interface Request, but because it is more thought vomit/brainstorming I figured I would move it to discussion before making a formal request.
