Slow start, manual research

Here are lots of suggestions and mods about skipping first ~hour of a game, give more initial resources and techs to go big immediately.
I've just started marathon game and realized that I want an opposite option - slow start. It will extend burning stage and make transition to electricity a significant progress rather then an initial thing.
It could be done by a mod, except one thing : manual research.
It is a handicraft recipe with infinite time, that acts like lab - burns science packs from player's inventory.
I need it to hide electricity, labs and circuits behind researches.
Also it would be nice to have different starting options in vanilla. Like minimum-standard-quick.
