[Mod Request] Standalone crawler/truck

Hi guys.

You have all seen the crawler from bobs mods. I was wondering if there was a mod that is already available that has this type of car/truck in a stand alone mod.

Or if someone is willing to work with me upon the development of said mod?

I am currently working upon a modpack of sorts and this is something lacking within the pack currently

The Crawler is included in Angel's Industries: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/angelsindustries
Easiest would be to ask Angel to make the dependencies optional or release a standalone version.

The AAI Hauler: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/aai-vehicles-hauler is also very nice.

Other mods provide lorries or trucks:

Hi, firstly thankyou for your reply. I am looking for something stand alone and the hauler from AAI does match some of the requirements. However it does not meet the style of the pack.

I'm really looking to be able to speak with a mod developer so I can explain in detail and bounce ideas back and forth to nail my idea down and it get developed.

No. It's a truck with a huge cargo area, and a grid (like on power armour) in which roboports, fusion reactors etc can be used.

So,

I have tested! and it is working as intended!, so far its perfect and exactly what i was hoping for!

there are a few little things i would like to change

I'm not sure if this can be done, is it possible to as logistic request slots and auto trash, like the player has?

The whole premise of this truck/mod is to work has a "building vehicles".. you drive along place a blueprint and it builds it from the cargo of the vehicles , using roboports from the grid, it would be awesome to be able to automatically restock it soon as you drive back within your logistics bots range it restocks.

Immediate Improvements
  • Change name of mod - "Upgrading Vehicles"
  • Change name of truck - "Transit Van" - as the vehicle name hauler is also in use by angels mods
  • Change mask colour - green - i love the colour green
  • Change research costs to include high techs packs, maybe 100 red,green,blue, yellow science
  • Larger trunk, double the size - *see extra ideas
  • larger grid, double the size *see extra ideas
  • Logistic request slots *see extra ideas
  • Logistics trash slots *see extra ideas
Extra idea's
I do not want to make the vehicles invincible as soon as you get them, and would like to make it that you have to "work" towards the endgame vehicles, so i think extra research would be good to add
  • Research Hauler trunk - each level of research adds an extra 10-20 slots of trunk space, maybe up to 8 levels of research, tripling in cost for each level
  • Research Hauler Grid - each level of research increases the size of the grid, maybe up to 8 levels of research, tripling in cost for each level
  • Research Hauler Resists - each level of research increases the base resists of the truck, 5 or 6 levels of research, tripling in cost for each level
  • Research Hauler Health - each level of research increases the base health of the truck by 1000 points, tripling in cost for each level
  • Research logistic request slots - each level of research increases number of slots
  • Research logistic trash slots - each level of research increases number of slots
Other types of Transit vehicles
"Transit Locomotive"
  • Train - "Transit Locomotive" - with the same setup as the truck truck. But with a much larger cargo. Locked behind lots of research
"Transit Plane"
  • Plane - "Transit Plane" - with the same setup as the truck. But with a much larger cargo. Locked behind and extreme research list, with fast movement speed, a "upgraded version" of the train

Such updating of vehicles is no possible. I can make a lot of vehicles, every has own properties, but visually same. 3 types of max _health x 3 types of hull size x 3 types of resistance makes 27 prototypes instead of just one that you can see.

I am not sure that I can add logistic slots and trash slots to the vehicle.

Planes are very dangerous, if you go out to the water then you are dead.
