So many times I needed to remove entire track section up to next crossing. Or just remove barely visible "loose ends" on roundabouts/crossings/splits/merges etc. Bots do the trick, but if tracks are diagonal, and close to another, deconstruction planner is bad choice. And manually I always remove wrong tracks.
Solution:
User press and hold some combination.
Each tick (or few ticks, it do not need to be very fast), every rail fragment within some range from player is removed from map and put into inventory, until combination is released. After this, remove to inventory "loose" signals. That's all.
With this, to remove entire track section, but nothing more, You just remove one track segment, press combination, and follow the disappearing tracks.
You do not need to worry about deleting wrong tracks, because only tracks with loose ends are removed. It would also automatically remove all unnecessary leftovers.
Optionally: "Buffer Stop" to protect required loose ends from accidental deletion (and, also, as a decoration)
Alternative: when button is holded, mark for remove by bots each trach section with:
- at least one loose end within range
- neighbouring with track section already marked do deletion.
